Just Get Up and Get Busy Communicating Your Message, Method & Promise

“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”

— Stephen King

I read this quote over at Michael Hyatt blog. Of course this is aimed at aspiring authors – but it got me to thinking. If you are a coach doing business on the internet, some form of writing is a staple for communicating to attract your perfect client.

You may not think you’re a writer or an author. You may not think you are in the “publishing” business.

You ARE in the communication business.

The perfect recipe for building your coaching business is “just get up and get busy communicating” your message, method & promise.

Message: The foundational story that presents the solution to a problem your identified perfect client is looking for. When your perfect client here’s your message, your story, they say, “yeah, me too. I can so relate to that.”

Method: Your unique process for solving a particular problem or set of problems. Or your unique process for taking someone from satisfaction mixed with unrest to new heights of inspiration.

Promise: What do your clients get, or aspire to achieve because they have worked with you. How have you moved them farther, quicker or both because of their investment of time and finances with you and your method.

Your perfect customer may be attracted by reading your blog posts, your articles, listening to recorded audio or watching a video. If you are only doing one form of communication you might miss many ideal clients who are best reached with a different communication tool. What? Okay if you only write in your blog – you could be missing perfect clients that love to listen to an audio or watch a video.

Coaches are in the business of communication. Plan this into your daily activities so that your perfect client can be attracted to you.

How do you attract your perfect client?

Are you being “googled”? What are your prospects finding about you online?

Your audience may know more about you than you think they do – or they may know nothing about you at all – both could be bad news!

A couple of weeks ago I was seeking affiliate partners for another project for offline business owners. I connected with a man who was well connected within the community and new that if I could have his help I would be more productive in reaching my ideal clients. He listened graciously to my presentation, asked a few questions and told me he would look over my proposal and get back to me.

Two weeks passed and I received an email from him. The statement that stood out to me was,

I have been doing research to make sure you are legit.
You have a pretty good web presence.
It is nice to also see you have Christian websites linked in with your business sites.

He basically “googled” me to find out what “foot prints” I have left all over the Internet. He read my blog, my articles, my Twitter stream and very likely posts that I’ve made in various discussion groups. I have been online since the late ’90’s so there’s probably lots of “tracks”.

His decision to my proposal was an enthusiastic yes! All of my previous Internet activity influenced his decision to work with me.

More and more your prospects and clients are checking you out to see if you are “legit” as a coach.

Let me ask you this, Is there enough evidence on line that your prospects can easily find online that would help your prospect to choose YOU as a coach?

The Two Things You MUST do Before You Post Your Press Release Online

First, before you write your first press release – you must begin to capture your visitors name and email address at your website! You’ll lose momentum if you bring lots of traffic with your press release or other publicity without preparing to capture the traffic for further conversation. You need to offer some information of value in exchange for your website visitor‘s name and email address. Offer a report, white paper, a “cheat sheet” or previously recorded audio that delivers a portion of the information your customer or website visitor has come to your website to discover.

Second, many experts also recommend that you create specific landing pages where visitors will “land” as they click through from your press release to your website. Let’s say your press release is announcing a new product, the link in your press release should take the traffic from the press release directly to a landing page regarding the new product, rather than the home page of your website. You don’t want to make the site visitor that discovered your press release have to search your website for the new product being announced.

Publicize your Podcast or Blog using Feedburner.com

Using RSS feed at Feedburner to promote your podcast or blog.

1. Open an account and burn your PODCAST feed at www.feedburner.com

2. Create a Headline Animater (feature of Feedburner.com)

Headline Animator: Create and customize an animated banner that cycles through your feed’s five

most recent items. It’s an easy way to promote your content anywhere you can place a snippet of

    HTML.

3. Put the code for your Headline Animator on the home page of your yahoo groups AND in your email

signature. (your email needs to support html)

4. Put the code for your Headline Animator on your Ryze Page, MySpace, Facebook, Squidoo, or other social networking page.

Write titles for your show with the first 3 words to grab attention or with your market’s key phrase or word. Only the first 3 or 4 words are going to be seen in the headline animator, so words like “Episode one” or the name of someone name not universally recognized just won’t draw listeners. Good topics for a woman’s health site might be -

  •   Hot flash free
  •   Depression and Hormones
  •   Never Sick Again?
  •   35 symptoms of Menopause

See my headline animator on my Rzye Network Page to see how I use this space to send people to my podcast.
