Get More Business Show – Shut up about the economy at work!
Today’s guest, Rajesh Setty, author of Upbeat: Cultivating the Right Attitude to Thrive in Tough Times, tells his employees not to talk about the news at work. It’s not productive and doesn’t help them move forward in their business.
As a coach you will appreciate Raj’s approach to the nine environments of You to create a consistently UpBeat attitude and business approach. Raj has been asking himself and his peers, colleagues and employees the right questions for quite a few years – you can see the benefits in his business and life. This has EVERYTHING to do with Getting More Business.

What Makes Your Ideal Prospect Take Action?
Many great ideas go unexecuted, and many great executioners are without ideas. One without the other is worthless. ~Tim Blixseth
To be really effective in building your coaching practice as a viable business it’s imperative that you
- get your ideal prospect to take action to hire you as their coach, or to purchase your products so they can apply your coaching method
- develop an understanding of how to repeatedly get your ideal prospects to take action – so if you can get one new client, surely you can duplicate your efforts and enroll 10 new clients, right?
The reason some coaches have as many clients as they desire and sell thousands of dollars worth of product monthly (some even sell thousands of dollars worth of product daily!), and some coaches can barely get one client is because of the two statements above. The successful coach understands how to get their ideal client to make a decision and take action, and the successful coach knows how to repeat this formula for action to attract and enroll clients and/or sell more product.
Let me just say, there IS a formula. It is possible to make an outstanding income while inspiring others to take life changing action.
Psychological Triggers
Psychology is the study of the mind. There are many who have made a study of what causes prospects of particular markets make buying decisions. There are a few important keys when implemented as part of your product or service offering will cause your ideal client to effortlessly trade their money (yes, they will find the money even in this economy – sometimes especially in this economy) for your promise and your method of coaching.
Coach Dave of Coachville.com, is fond of saying, “A potential player, will only hire a Coach with more certainty than they have.”
There is a method for conveying your sense of certainty about your coaching method to develop the level of trust that your prospect needs to chose to become a client.
The human brain process is so many billion bits of information all day that it has developed efficient ways of processing information so that it can process quick enought to act in a timely fashion. For example, if you’re on a nature hike and something wiggles in the leaves you might jump with a start imagining a snake – but it might only be a twig. Your brain acted on the assumption that something wiggling in the leaves might be alive, possibly a snake and a quick leap away might save your life if it is indeed a snake.
We also process much of the information that comes to us in a buying experience. There are psychological triggers that quickly develop trust and confidence, as well as cause us to assume that this buying opportunity will supply us what we’re looking for.
As a business owner, a marketer – yes, coaches must be marketers to remain in business, must understand these psychological triggers to help the ideal prosect to take beneficial action.
No, I am not talking about manipulation.
This is the stuff that many of you that are NLP coaches understand. There is a language and action that will more often result in success with certainty.
I have coached brilliant coaches who run from any type of marketing and struggle the whole time to stay in business.
It is possible to understand the workings of the human mind and engage the triggers that help your ideal prospect to satisfy their own need with your method. You must help them take this action inorder to benefit from your coaching method. I would say if your message is of any value at all you have an obligation to deliver your information in the way that your ideal prospect needs it so they can take action.
This Friday on the Get More Business Show, I have invited MichelePW who is a master at getting ideal prosects to take action. She will share with me the 5 Psychological Triggers to Turn Prospects Into Clients (Warning: These are SO powerful you MUST promise to use them in an honest and ethical manner.)
I promise you that this is not about manipulation. This is about understanding human psychology and how we are “hard wired” to take action. I studied a few of MichelePW’s very successful sales pages for other coaches and have pinpointed these very triggers. I saw the formula over and over in each one. It is a beautiful process that is very complimentary to my ethics as a coach.

The Language of Coaching: Enrolling New Clients to Play with You
What if Coaches ruled the World?
“The whole world would speak a different language.”
In July, ‘09, Coach Milana Leshinsky, posted an interesting question on her blog as a contest for her 2009 Coaching Millions Super Summit in Dallas, Texas, on October 23-25. Coach Milana asked her followers:
If you’ve ever been in a room full of coaches, you would agree that we are a special kind. We see world differently that most people changing the world around us where ever we go. Can you imagine if coaches actually ruled the world?
I didn’t enter the contest, but yesterday when I did the Get More Business Show with Nancy Marmolejo and we talk about turning Followers into Fans & Fans to Leads and then Clients, the thought came to me that a huge difference in the coach world is out language.
Our language (not the language of our nationality) is one of play and not work. We don’t provide our coaching groups with workbooks – we use playbooks. Our clients hire us to play with them not work with them.
The language of a Coach is about inspiration.
Just prior to yesterdays episode of Get More Business Show with Nancy Marmolejo I listened to her preview call with Natasha Allrich, Soft Sell with Social Media, and listened to Natasha talk with Nancy about her clients enrolling themselves into her programs. She does not sell her programs to her clients – which is the language of coersion. Let me invite you to listen in to this conversation between Nancy & Natasha, I think you’ll find the conversation to be refreshing as they speak the language of Coaches; the language of compassion not coersion.
As I mentioned in my last post, Nancy’s program last August was transformational for me. I literally went from social media obscurity to being on the list of 50 Most Influential Women in Social Media in just a few months with the information that I learned from Nancy’s webinar last August. I fully expect this new program with Natasha will be every bit the Grand Slam as her last end of summer game.
On yesterday’s episode, Nancy made the comment, “Don’t let the spammers, and pushy marketers take over social networking and spoiling this beautiful method of connecting with our ideal prospect!” (my paraphrase, not actual word for word quote – but you get the idea, right?) It occured to me that we coaches really do have a powerful responsibility to be influencers in this world.
Coaches may never rule the world as in taking on the title of President, or Prime Minister, or Ruler of any official title – or one of us might – but we all have the power to be influencers. One of our primary tools is our words and how we use them. Let’s set ourselves apart and speak the language of inspiration especially in business.
“What do you do?” Impact in 30 seconds or less
Recently I was invited to join a great coaching network on Yahoo called New Coach Connection. This morning I received an email from the group conversation that went as follows…at the bottom is my 2 cents to a great nugget of marketing instruction:

4 examples from 4 different people to your great question, and EVERY ONE said the same thing.
Yes, there was some indignation and chiding, but for every commenter that gave an example, (regardless of what fancy name they give it) what we all do is consistent:
You need a short (definitely less than 30 seconds – shorter is much better) statement which consists of the following parts:
- I
- (do what)
- (for whom)
- (in order to)
- (which results in) (also known as WIIFM- What’s in it for me)
The four examples (exact quotes with the above 5 points inserted):
I (do what) guide (for whom) people (in order to) to transform their negative states of perception, thinking, decision-making, behavior, and emotion into positive equivalents. (which results in) This raises their consciousness and vibrational frequency,
and thus their brain output and likelihood of success in all ways. With
this skill, they facilitate a renewal.I (do what) help (for whom) successful executives (in order to) improve their performance and wellness. (which results in) This can result in:
Improved Corporate Performance Improved Corporate Risk Management, and Better Executive LivesI (do what) help (for whom) solopreneurs (in order to) attract more clients (which results in) and make more money.I (do what) love to help (for whom) holistic entrepreneurs and helping professionals (in order to) move
their small business to an exponential level. I help them (which results in) realize their goals and bring their life joy!Have fun with your own statement!!

All Things Coaching
I would add only one more thing to this
If you can put numbers or something specifically definitive of the result:
…30 days to your first client
…lose 10 lbs in the first 10 days
…increase net worth 300% in the first year
Often these specific results come out of the mouths of the people we have coached already. One new client recently told me that in just one hour of coaching I gave her 30 ways to monetize a live speaking event – many that she could easily implement immediately in her practice.
For my 30 second answer I would want to dissect this testimonial – maybe even more than one testimonial – so that I can use different compelling self introductions in different circumstances & to test to see which one provokes the most conversation after I’ve said what I do.
In September of last year I did an Internet radio show with Ann Convery who spoke with me about this very thing – It’s free to listen…
Expanding Your Circle of Influence Increases Traffic
The key to building your coaching business online is being seen where your ideal client is looking, or at least hanging out, even if they don’t know they’re “looking” you can be seen – when the time is right.
So it started on a Monday, we both showed up and connected; then by Friday we both showed up and did a fabulously inspiring show.
What?
Two coaches showed up on each other’s Twitter stream on Monday. Actually we’ve probably been following each other for 6 months. I’m seeing her tweets but not really seeing her tweets. Not sure why. But then on Monday one of the tweets really get’s my attention and I reply. Back and forth we tweet.
Am I ready for the answer? Yes, I AM ready for the answer. She sends a tweet with a link to THE life changing video. Life Changing? Yes in 24 hours I had a major breakthrough because of this simple interaction.
I send her a thank you tweet and offer to write a testimonial in gratitude for her intuition and generosity to share. By Friday morning the blog post is prepared with the story (much more detailed than this) on her blog. We’ll all set to Tweet about it and share the power of Law of Attraction and Twitter.
On Friday, early in the morning another twist enters this story. My scheduled guest, Maritza Parra, emails me that her voice is gone and she needs to reschedule. The Get More Business Show will go live with no scheduled guest.
I email an invite to my new treasured Twitter friend but she never receives until much later in the day. Fourteen minutes before the show I announce I have no guest but I’ll open the lines for listeners to ask questions – guess who my first caller is?
If you guessed that it was my new Twitter friend who had so profoundly touched my life, you’d be right. We did an hour long show discussing how opportunity and the answers we seek are all around us but sometimes our thoughts and perspective do not allow us to see because there is no framework for reference.
The moral of this true story could be any or all of the following:
- Marketing can be much more effective with proper use of Law of Attraction
- It’s amazing what happens when you make your self available to opportunity
- Setting your intentions gives you the ability to see what you’ve been missing
Are you hanging out with your ideal prospect?
- Social Networks – Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Ning groups
- On your own blog – how often do you post to be seen by those that are looking?
- YouTube – You have so much to show and say – Just do it! You’ll get better.
Here’s the link to much more details to this story over on @AffirmingSpirit / Nancy Barry-Jansson’s blog. The story will make much more sense if you read her story and she even share’s the links to the life changing video’s that impacted me.
I am looking forward to hearing how you are learning to “see” opportunities all around you by expanding your awareness.
Booklet Tips on Hot Topics to Write About
Food, kids, pets, money, health, and sex. Yes, these are each topics with large audiences and interest, at least in North America and some other countries of the world. You may have personal or professional expertise in one or more of these topics. Seems like any of those would be a great place to start writing a booklet, wouldn’t it?
Join me and Paulette Ensign on Friday May 15th, 2009 at 9 am Pacific on the Get More Business Show as I interview her about how to use Tip Booklets for building a coaching business.
I would agree, to a point. That point is marketing. Successful, easy, cohesive marketing is based on your level of enthusiasm about the topic you choose topic, and how it all fits in with the rest of your life. If your business is focused on one of those topics mentioned at the beginning of this article, then by all means, write about it and begin as soon as you can. If your business is NOT focused on one of those topics, and you are writing about it because of the ready market you think you’ll find, then you will probably be setting yourself up for conflict, chaos, and collisions.
What excites you in your business or in any other part of your life where you spend a large portion of your time and effort? Notice how readily you talk about that interest of yours, probably to anyone who will listen and for as long as they’ll listen. And that interest may not have anything to do with food, kids, pets, money, health, and sex. You might be an expert on road safety, like one of my clients. Is that a real sexy topic? To many of us, no, not even close.
I’ll ask you a different question. How do you feel about the results that one of my clients has experienced, selling over a million copies of a booklet on road safety to agencies whose mission it is to educate the population about that topic? That’s exactly what this client did.
Or your interest could be about creating acoustically well-designed meeting rooms. A sexy topic? Not to most people. However, the meeting planners, architects, speakers, and many other related people and organizations have a huge interest in the topic and relish a tips booklet on the various aspects to consider.
So, like I said, you already have a magic bullet. You will find it by noticing what gets your juices going, what captures your attention, what prompts you to want to know more than you already know about the topic and how it relates to your everyday life. It’s what drew you to the business you’re in or the cause you support.
When writing a booklet about a topic near and dear to your heart, you will see ways to market the booklet popping up everywhere you look. There will be manufacturers, retailers, publications, and associations who will want thousands and hundreds of thousands of your booklet. Their universe could require literally millions of copies.
It will be easy to expand your product line because your clients and prospective clients will guide you with requests for different formats of your content and you will be excited about it. You will have so many choices on your plate that the challenge will then become what to do first from among all the possibilities. Will you create audio products or card decks or foreign language versions of the tips booklet you just wrote? What about an entire electronically-published product line on your topic?
So, what ARE the hot topics to write about? Food, kids, pets, money, health, and sex? Only if it’s already a passionate part of your everyday business activities. Otherwise, I think you may have found you’ve got the magic bullet for the best topics for YOU to write about.
Take your topic to the next level with a step-by-step system so you can add to those hot topics out in the world.

Practical Article Marketing Tips – How Do You Get Prospects to Read Your Articles?
I am a member of Jeff Herring’s Article Marketing Teleseminar Club and have been since January 2009. I would happily give up my Starbucks (if it were necessary!) to remain a member of Jeff’s AMTC!
Practical Article Marketing Tips – How Do You Get Prospects to Read Your Articles? By Jeff Herring
Here is an Article Marketing question from a former student who is now returning:
Q: I had taken your course early on. My life went in another direction off line and I have not written any articles. I am back on and may be interested in refreshing with your new material. BUT FIRST….I would love an answer to this. There are thousands of articles on EzineArticles.com and other article sites. The chance of anyone reading yours/mine out of all the other articles submitted in one’s niche is slim. So then, what benefit is writing and submitting articles for traffic if they are not read or used by others. Thanks for your time.
A: I love this question for a lot of reasons:
1. It’s great for article content
2. So much has changed since this person has been around
3. It’s great for teaching.
So here are my top 5 ways to get your articles read by hungry prospects, even in a crowded niche:
1. Give up your limiting belief about there being too many people or too many articles in your niche – Here’s the bottom line, demonstrated by me and many of my students:
There are more people out there in your niche waiting to hear from you, who can hear the message only from you, than you can ever get to in your life time.
2. Go deep on EzineArticles.com with great quality articles – You can’t just throw up a few articles and expect the world to come beating at your door. Your first goal should be 10, then 25, then 50, then 100, then 250 and keep adding from there. When you do this you build a massive web presence and you will be found.
3. Use the “auto-tweet” feature in your EzineArticles.com account – Each time a new article by you is published EzineArticles.com send an automatic notice to Twitter announcing your new article to all your Twitter followers. This in one of the ways I get 90 views in 90 minutes for many of my articles.
4. Buy the domain name “www.Articlesby(YourFirstName).com and forward it to your profits at EzineArticles.com - This simple strategy allows you to mention your domain name that sends people straight to all your articles and thus your links.
5. Use the description of your article as an email to your list members – Your articles are not just for people who have never heard of you. Your articles are also for bringing in return traffic. Send your list members an email that includes your article description and a link to your article.
And to learn how to build our entire online business with article marketing and turn your articles into money in your bank account, I’d like you to check out The Article Marketing TeleSeminar Club.
You’ll learn how to leverage the 5 things you need on the internet -

Coach Training Course: Write a List Post [Day 2 - 31DBBB]
Remember – In this series I am writing follow up posts to Darren Rowse’s series on his website with my post taking off on his topic/task expanding on it for coaches who are building their coaching practice.
Day 2 – Today Darren’s topic/task is “Write a List Post” . Go there now and read his post and do the task assignment.
Darren says a list post is an “effective technique … to write content that gets spread from one person to the next.” This is the goal – to spread your message far and wide to your ideal prospects.
From his “8 Reasons Why List Posts are Powerful for Bloggers” my personal favorites are #2 and #8 -
- Lists keep posts succinct
- Lists break down the complicated
How I feel as a reader of list posts.I enjoy reading a blog that “cuts to the chase” so I don’t have to read thru the “blah, blah, blah” to get to the good stuff. This is especially true if the content of a particular blog can be complex information. A list can be a way to serve up a big idea in small “bite size” installments so that the whole concept is easier to grasp.
How I feel as a writer of list posts. As a writer, I feel that writing a list post can sometimes make communicating a concept in writing much easier. When I begin to write out an idea for a blog post I tend to break it down into a list in my mind so that I know how much I plan to share in one post. It helps me decide if I want to break up my thought into multiple posts.
Here is a process that I like to use:
- Create a title that sets the stage for delivering a concept
- Make a list of particular points that I want to make to explain the concept in the post
- Add 2 – 3 sentences to each item on the list to further elaborate on the point
- Add an introduction paragraph that leads with a compelling statement of fact to grab reader’s attention
- Finish the post with a paragraph that calls the reader to action
Here are some of the calls to action that I have in mind as I finalize the blog post:
- comment on blog post
- click through to another post
- email capture page
- ask the reader to consider engaging my services as an individual or group coach
I use these steps frequently as a template for articles as well.
Lists are also a great tool to share resources with your readers. For example if you are a parenting coach you could share a list of the top ten activities to bring on a road trip to keep toddlers occupied. Or, if you’re a business coach you could share a list of places on the Internet to advertise a local business for free.
I would love to hear from you on this. Please leave a comment. Did you make a list to post on your blog? Did you do yesterday’s homework and create an elevator pitch for your blog that ties in with your unique coaching message?
