The idea came to me while listening to The Tim Ferris Show. As I was listening to a replay of the original interview with Derek Sivers there were so many tasty nuggets of wisdom coming from Derek I had to stop and take notes. No wonder Tim Ferriss came up with the idea to publish Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers to share the wisdom of the Titans that he interviewed.
In episode #125, guest Derek Sivers shared how he kept notes from the highlights he captured from the hundreds of books he has read, eventually publishing them to his website with as he says, “Tiny summary but detailed notes for each.”
Derek’s description of why he did this – to further learn and later revisit the wisdom he gleaned – inspired me to think about the notes I was taking from this podcast. What if I recorded the quotes, comments, and wisdom that was meaningful to me in a blog post to share with the world? Maybe my thoughts would inspire someone else’s thoughts. After all, that is why I listen to as many podcasts and YouTube videos as I do – to be inspired by and inspire others with the thoughts and processes of another extraordinary human.
The title “Voice of Titans” came to me, I guess, as a spin-off from Tim’s book title, Tools of Titans. Hopefully, Tim will not feel it’s an infringement on his idea. I chose “voice” because of the fact that this is audio from which I’m gleaning. I looked up the word “titan” and thought it would resonate with what I was trying to accomplish.
So what is a “titan”? According to Vocabulary.com, “The noun titan comes from Greek mythology, in which the Titans were a race of gods. Today, a titan is someone who is god-like, or powerful and influential in a certain field.”
The plan is not to only share my thoughts about Tim Ferriss’ podcast because there are several other podcasts I like listening to and learning from in addition. So yes, expect notes from other podcasts. Also, I’m not going to do a play by play of everything the host or guest discusses. The Voice of Titans Series will simply be what I think is significant from the topic or conversation at the time I listened to an episode. I will add links to the shows so that you can head on over to the actual show or interview and decide what is significant when you listen. I hope you enjoy the series and I would love to hear your feedback from my notes and your observations if you also listen to the podcasts.
